[OS:N:] Just joined

Well hello all,
	I've just joined this list and was requested to 'please take a moment
to introduce yourself to the list', so here I am.

I'm just back from a little bit of travelling, looking for a job and
wanting to do some programming. As a result I decided that I'd install
Red Hat and see if I couldn't cut some code. I wanted to start out small
and do something like write a small application to display a picture as
the Desktop Background and thought I'd find the necessary system calls
on the Red Hat web site. I failed so I thought that I'd log on to this
list and listen to any information that I might pickup.

I'd like to be of some use programming for Open Source but I'm going to
be dead weight for a while. My background is about 10 years in embedded
systems programming for telecommunications and as a result I'm a
straight C man and have never had a big screen to play with. I'd like to
do some C++ and Java and then join one of the projects in time but for
now I'm just finding my feet.
