If it is the cost to Red Hat that is the problem then charge a 'fee' for
purchases under $2000 with a purchase order.

Most of us who would pay for it are in part doing so because we want to
support the company and people working for it.

Perhaps Red Hat needs to consider the cost of not being in schools.  It
means less exposure to students.  Some of those students will go to
college and graduate into positions where they make purchasing
decisions.  

If they were exposed to Red Hat and have a positive view then they will
likely purchase Red Hat.  If they weren't exposed or were exposed to
another OS...that will likely be the OS they choose when it comes time
to buy.

My point here is there are other prices that are paid.  Their marketing
department probably understands this but if they don't it really needs
to be delivered to them.
